What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care is a health care model that puts the relationship between the patient and doctor first. Patients receive their primary care for a low monthly fee, free of copays and hurried visits. Instead, patients can have same-day or next-day visits without copays, and access to your physician via telemedicine, texts, and email.

Is This Concierge Medicine?

No, DPC is not the same as concierge medicine. While DPC and concierge medicine both have a limited patient panel and charge a monthly or annual fee, concierge fees are generally higher, sometimes up to $30,000 a year! As well, concierge medicine continues to charge copays for each visit and bill insurance.

DPC is a model based on the relationship between the physician and patient, bypassing insurance to reduce costs, making it more affordable to patients. There are no copays in DPC or hidden deductibles.

Is DPC Insurance?

No, DPC is not insurance. The monthly fee is for your ongoing primary care that your physician provides. It is highly recommended to have insurance for care beyond what we offer (specialty care, ER or hospitalizations or surgery). DPC can be paired with a high deductible, “wraparound” or “catastrophic policy.” Health sharing plans such as Liberty Healthshare and Sedera Health are examples. There is no financial incentive for our practice recommending, other than to offer patients an affordable option for the above mentioned.

Even if you are healthy and have good insurance, you can still benefit from Direct Primary Care. Good insurance does not necessarily mean good healthcare. Good insurance can often mean a deductible of $2,500-5,000 or more. This means if you go to the doctor for anything that isn’t a preventative visit, then you will have to pay up to $2,500-$5,000 before insurance kicks in. It also means 15-minute visits or less, with many times not being able to address your health concerns adequately AND a copay of $25 or more each time you see a doctor. Direct Primary Care cuts down on your healthcare costs.
And as we all know, nothing is certain in the world we live in. A healthy lifestyle does not always mean we will always be healthy. Our health can be taken from us in a moment with an accident or sudden diagnosis. Direct Primary Care affords you that assurance that you have a healthcare quarterback who is directly accessible in your times of need.
